The recent Fire Industry Association (FIA) AGM and Annual Lunch was an incredible day for all attendees with over 560 professionals gathering for updates, awards, and a three-course meal. Eurotech was honoured to sponsor both the event and the official comedian for the lunch, which featured comedian Seann Walsh, providing the entertainment.
It was great to network and host many of our valued partners at the lunch.
In addition, weāre extremely proud of Robert Quinn, our Area Sales Manager ā South, for being voted onto the Fire Detection & Alarm (FD&A) Council! The FIA Fire Detection & Alarm Council represents manufacturers and suppliers of fire detection and alarm equipment. The Councilās key role is to present the collective views of this sector of the industry, including negotiation and discussion with government and other external bodies. As one of the younger voices in the fire industry, Robert brings fresh energy and new ideas to the table and is eager to champion competence, compliance, innovation, and regulatory improvements.
In addition to networking with many valued partners, we extend heartfelt thanks to the FIA and fellow sponsors for making this event a resounding success. Looking ahead, the 2025 AGM & Annual Lunch promises further opportunities for collaboration and growth in fire safety.

The Grenfell Tower tragedy of 2017 exposed devastating shortcomings in fire safety regulations, particularly in buildings with hazardous combustible cladding. The recently released Grenfell Inquiry Report highlights the need for immediate reforms in fire safety, recommending the removal of flammable cladding and the installation of robust fire detection and evacuation systems in high-rise residential buildings. The award-winning Sygno-fi by Eurotech wireless fire system offers a comprehensive and adaptable solution to address these fire safety challenges.
One of the core findings of the Grenfell Inquiry was the fatal delay in detecting the fire and alerting residents. The Sygno-fi by Eurotech wireless system is specifically designed to counter this issue, offering early detection and instant notification of an activation to building occupants. By utilising advanced radio signal technology, the system can detect a fire in seconds, providing a rapid warning and facilitating a simultaneous evacuation strategy.
The Sygno-fi by Eurotech system is ideal for use in protecting buildings with flammable cladding, in line with the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) guidance, which recommends temporary fire alarms in buildings with combustible cladding as a better alternative to Waking Watch when a change in evacuation strategy is required. Inside Housing reports that employing Waking Watch guards can cost up to Ā£200,000 per year. However, one of our recent projects attracted a Ā£15,000 per week Waking Watch bill! Installing Sygno-fi significantly reduces these costs, paying for itself within months,ā as in the instance above.
In buildings undergoing remediation to remove combustible cladding, wireless fire safety systems like Sygno-fi can be installed with minimal disruption to tenants. Unlike traditional wired fire alarms, which require extensive cabling and renovation, Sygno-fi wireless systems are installed quickly without invasive construction work. The installation process involves pre-programming the devices offsite, reducing the time engineers need to spend in each apartment and limiting disturbance to residents. This is particularly beneficial for buildings where continuous safety upgrades are being made.
Additionally, the system’s flexibility allows it to be easily reconfigured once cladding is removed. For example, if the temporary BS-5839-1 L5Ā Sygno-fi system is designed correctly, it can be modified to comply with BS8629 standards for evacuation alert systems. This offers a long-term, adaptable solution for fire safety even after initial cladding concerns are addressed. The hybrid capability of the equipment also allows for a future-proofed hardwired evacuation alert system. This can be achieved by a hard-wired sounder within the entrance hallway of the flat, and wireless heat detectors protecting the external wall.
The Grenfell Inquiryās final report highlights decades of failings that contributed to the disaster, calling for swift changes to fire safety protocols and building regulations. Among the 58 recommendations is the removal of dangerous cladding and the implementation of more effective fire detection systems. As buildings across the UK work towards compliance, Sygno-fi by Eurotech provides an immediate and future-proofed fire safety solution. The system ensures that residents will be promptly alerted in the event of a fire and can evacuate safely, both now and in the future, even after remediation and a return to the stay-put policy, with an evacuation alert system available if ever needed.
For further details on how Sygno-fi by Eurotech can enhance fire safety in residential blocks, check out our Ā Sygno-fi Brochure, then download the free BS8629 Pocket Guide.
More information on the Grenfell Inquiryās findings is available in the Phase 2 Report.

We are pleased to share with you a significant advancement in our Sygno-fi by EurotechĀ wireless platform as part of our commitment to continuous product improvement.
In our ongoing efforts to enhance product performance, we have evolved the design of the Sygno-fi detectorsā series. This update specifically addresses the balance between smoke detection capabilities and the prevention of spurious body access, such as dust and insects, within the optical chamber.
The modification includes a refined insect screen, as illustrated in the before-and-after images below:

In conjunction with the plastic part modification mentioned above, we have introduced a new Emitter LED that produces an exceptionally focused emitter beam. The cross-section snapshot of the old and new chambers is provided below:

This improvement not only maintains sensitivity to airborne particulates, such as smoke, but also enhances resilience against spurious bodies like settled dust and small fibres adhering to the chamber walls.
We are pleased to confirm that this enhancement has undergone extensive testing and has been approved according to EN54 standards. Relevant CPR certificates will be amended on the same CPR numbers.
The affected product codes are as follows:
These improvements are already in production across our Sygno-fi detector range.

Linear heat detection offers unparalleled cost-effectiveness and ease of installa
tion compared to conventional heat detectors. Proline’s innovative solutions are designed to overcome installation challenges and provide early detection of fire or equipment overheating in commercial and industrial settings.
Proline offers two types of heat sensing cables: fixed temperature and analogue.
With six temperature ratings ranging from 68°C to 218°C, Proline Digital cables come in various outer jackets to suit different applications. Constructed with two twisted and tensioned tri-metallic conductors coated in a heat-sensitive polymer, these cables detect heat by melting the polymer at the rated temperature, causing the conductors to touch and send a signal to the fire alarm control panel. The damaged section of the cable is easily replaceable, and a Dual Zone Monitor Module (ZI-02) can pinpoint the alarm location along the cable.
Similar to Proline Digital, Proline EN Digital cables consist of twisted metal cores sheathed in temperature-sensitive polymers. These cables trigger an alarm when the polymers soften at a specific temperature, and they are designed to be low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) and UV resistant for indoor and outdoor use.
Activation temperatures include 68°C, 78°C and 88°C, and the EN-54 certified Digital Sensor Control Unit can monitor up to 2,000 metres across two zones of digital LHD cable.
The Proline EN Digital LHD cable is designed to work with the Proline EN Digital Sensor Control Unit Z1-02EN and Proline EN Digital End-of-Line Unit EOLU-EN
Offering pre-alarm and alarm functionalities, ProReact analogue heat sensing cables monitor temperature increases and are fully resettable. These cables can be programmed for an early warning pre-alarm in addition to the specified alarm temperature. A ProReact analogue controller and end-of-line unit are necessary for full monitoring of the cable for open and short circuits.
Proline’s solutions are versatile and can be applied in various settings, including:
With its reliability and effectiveness, Proline ensures early detection and protection against fire hazards and equipment overheating.
