AEC (SW) Electrical Ltd are a leading electrical, fire and security installation company for domestic, commercial and industrial properties. With headquarters in Poole, Dorset, AEC work across the South on a wide range of properties, their latest being The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital in Aylesbury.
The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital is a Grade II Listed private hospital providing patient-centred holistic specialist rehabilitation therapy and nursing.
A fire risk assessment conducted on the site identified the requirement for fire safety improvements due to the existing fire detection and alarm system being old and faulty. The incumbent fire system also didn’t meet insurance requirements.
Following a thorough survey and check of the system, it was decided a complete new fire detection and alarm system would be required to ensure the hospital was adequately protected from the risk of fire.
As the hospital was a Grade II listed building, a wireless system was the obvious choice. AEC Electrical partnered with Eurotech Fire Systems Ltd to provide the best solution for this unique building. A hybrid detection system using our award-winning Sygno-Fi by Eurotech system alongside Eurotech hardwired field devices was selected with Advanced MXPro5 fire panels.
“I just wanted to say a big thank you to Eurotech and the team regarding our recent project at The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital. It was a very testing project for all involved and time was not on our side, but it was completed with the help of everyone involved.”
The award-winning Sygno-fi by Eurotech range of high-performance open protocol EN54-25 wireless detection, control and alarm devices offer exceptional capabilities, quality and reliability. Combined with user-friendly survey, install, commissioning and maintenance software, the innovative Sygno-fi range revolutionises the wireless fire systems market.
The wireless platform is suitable for both small-medium and large sites, with the capability to handle up to 128 devices per wireless translator and 240 per hybrid loop. There is also a 10-year battery life on sensors, call points and inputs and up to five years on output devices, sounders and VADs.
Eurotech completed a radio integrity test alongside AEC to ensure the system was designed to ensure easy maintenance across the site for future years. This was achieved by siting translator modules in engineer-friendly areas. Expander modules were also implemented where required for the relevant wireless systems. Once the system was configured, any modifications to this could be completed via the translator module.
In the basement area of the hospital, the walls were extremely thick and noise was not an issue. In these areas Eurotech hardwired field devices were installed. In patient and office areas where disruption from installation works would have been a problem, Sygno-Fi by Eurotech infrastructure units and wireless field devices were installed.
Quality control checks are vital to check the system’s functionality and operation.
Eurotech supplied a fully pre-programmed Sygno-fi/Eurotech hybrid fire detection and alarm system paired with a fault-tolerant network of Advanced Mx Pro5 panels to protect the Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital for many years to come.
We worked in partnership with AEC (SW) Electrical to ensure the system was designed, installed and commissioned to ensure full compliance with industry regulations and met insurance requirements, as well as protecting the listed building and occupants for years to come.
Stuart Hebditch at AEC says: “I just wanted to say a big thank you to Eurotech and the team regarding our recent project at The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital. It was a very testing project for all involved and time was not on our side, but it was completed with the help of everyone involved.
I especially wanted to praise Robert for all his time personally on-site and for phone assistance whenever needed. He was fantastic from start to finish and nothing was ever too much trouble for him.
Helpful, knowledgeable and professional at all times; it was great working with him.
I will certainly look forward to working with you all on more projects in the future.”
